Jordan Goh's Parent Sharing
My son, Jordan had joined the Child Development and Learning Intervention Programme (CDLIP) at Azon Connect People Development Sdn Bhd (Azon) for 2 years. Previously, I got to know about Azon through a special education teacher. Jordan was discovered to be different from other children when he was at 2 years old. He had no response towards his name, no sign of verbal communication (e.g. Calling daddy or mummy), poor expression (e.g. Wouldn’t point at the object that he wanted) and poor socialization. Later, my son was diagnosed with autism by the paediatrician based on the above symptoms. However, when Ms. Lee Li Li (the consulting psychologist of Azon) conducted the assessment for my child, the results indicated that he had developmental delay that was caused by poor attention.
ith the assistance from psychologist and CDLIP, Jordan showed improvement in expressing himself in sentences, responding to asked questions, and having better body coordination at the age of 4. Jordan even enrolled himself into a kindergarten when he was at 3 years old, however, he still needed improvement in his socialization.
I sincerely appreciated the efforts of the psychologist and team in Azon who had helped my child. They were being patience to help my child and offer parenting advices. Not only that my child showed obvious progress, I also gained more knowledge in the parenting field.
Words to encourage other parents: The intervention programme for children with developmental delay was like a marathon race, not a sprint. You would need persistence and perseverance to reach the end goal with your children. With our understanding and sympathy, together with the help from teachers, we could finish the race as one team. Parenting was not an easy job, but we could all work together on a better future for our children!
