Jia Wen's Dad Sharing
My sister, who is a teacher at SRJK(C) Yak Chee first introduced me to A Zon Educare Advisory. Since, my daughter, Jia Wen who is now 10 years old has been with A Zon for about 1 ½ years. During this 1 ½ years, she attended the ‘a Life Child Living Etiquette Program’ and the ‘a Life Child & Teen Enrichment Camp’. This year, she has been further introduced to a new program, called the ‘a Life Child & Teen Fun Club’ to enhance her level of learning. 1 ½ years ago, Jia Wen was not willing to attend school and this problem lasted about 1 month.
We tried various ways of helping her, such as going to the temple; visiting the head master and counseling teacher, but all were in vain. Later, we realized that she was afraid of the physical punishment (caning) at school and was unwilling to face the stress caused by school. Because she has never been caned before at home, therefore, she could not accept the caning at school. For this reason, I brought Jia Wen to A Zon Educare Advisory for an assessment and consultation. Here, we realized that Jia Wen actually lacks the ability to communicate with others and to express herself. To enhance her social interaction skills, I therefore decided to enroll her into A Zon.
When the courses first started, I was puzzled when I saw the kids learning to cook and to do chores. I was wondering how these could help the child learn and grow. Not long after, I realized some changes in her personality. Jia Wen is more initiative and would do household chores and self-care independently. Besides, she also learns to greet and care for others. I feel that Jia Wen has improved much in expressing herself. Furthermore, she has learned to tell the right from the wrong. There was once when Jia Wen took my wallet without permission to buy the books she wanted and I believed that back then she had no concept that these were wrong behaviors. However, with some gentle reminder now, she would think and analyze the rights and wrongs before doing something.
A word to other parents:
Study results are not the most important for our child. The most important thing is their attitude. I feel that environment could affect a child’s development, and I believe that A Zon Educare Advisory is a good place to provide the proper environment for our child’s learning and development.
